Abstract

A practical procedure for the epoxidation of alkenes is described. The reaction is performed between 30 and 5O“C in 1,2-dichloroethane with 30% hydrogen peroxide and acatalytic amount of a quaternary phosphonium or ammonium pertungstate. Allylic alcohols are very reactive and require lower temperatures for their epoxidation.
